Assessment Centre

“Assessment Centre” is a technique which is used for measuring certain dimensions of a person’s competency. The technique consists of a mix of separate techniques for measuring psychological dimensions such as traits, qualities or competencies of people. The technique consists of a group of people undergoing a series of work-related exercises and simulations along with some standard psychometric instruments. Their behavior while undergoing the exercises and simulations is observed by a set of trained and experienced observers who record their observations and integrate these to arrive at a measurement of the competency of each of the participants.

The Assessment Centre technique is

  • Its ability to pitch its exercises at any level or situation that the designer may intend.
  • It is therefore possible to simulate any position for its participants, thereby conveying them into a future role or responsibility while simultaneously checking their suitability thereto.
  • This gives the assessment centre a tremendous possibility to predict competency in a future role with a good degree of success – giving the assessment centre much of its gloss.

Common Uses of Assessment Centers

Thus, the Assessment Centers can be used for development and such development centers are bolstered by a separate feedback session at the very end of the Programme, wherein the data elicited during the development centre is fed back to each participant.
